We are bombarded with hundreds of choices every day. We face these choices as soon as our eyes open at daybreak.
Some choices are really easy. Purple tshirt or green sweater? Ponytail or curls? Sneakers or heels?
Some choices are really, really hard. Will I analyze my body as I undress? Will I notice every imperfection? Will I find my worth in the scale? Will I eat for comfort or nourishment? Will I hate or love my body today? Will I believe the truth about myself?
It's so easy to get wrapped up in the choices that we make. We analyze and replay our choices over and over in our minds. When we make a bad choice we so quickly turn to guilt, shame, and worthlessness.
Have your past wrong choices determined your worth or value? Have you ever binged and felt worthless? Have you ever faced a toilet and felt unacceptable? Have you ever considered hurting yourself and felt unloved?
Lay those choices at the foot of the cross. Then listen. God beckons to you, you are MORE.
My dear child, you are more than your bad choices. Don't you know who you are? Don't you know what I have done for you? You have so much value to me that I sent Jesus to die for YOU. He died so that YOU would find your value in me, not in a list of bad choices. I did that for YOU. Your brokenness has brought you here. I'm so glad to see you… now I can tell you how much I love you, how much I value YOU. Now rise up. Walk in freedom. I am making you new. Love, God (Dad).
Romans 8:37 states, "In all these things we are MORE than conquerors, through HIM who loves us." In ancient Rome, a conqueror in battle would have rode into town on a triumphant chariot, wearing a beautiful robe and golden crown. I would imagine that this conqueror would have felt great value. Yet, in Scripture we are told that we are even MORE than conquerors. In Christ, our value is even greater than a victor of a mighty battle.
You are more than all of the choices you make.
Do you worry? You are more than that. Do you have fear? You are more than that. Do you feel alone? You are more than that!
Our choices do not define who we are. The love of God and death of His son define who we are. Your value comes from God alone. God is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. He will never change. If He never changes, you can trust that your value will never change, regardless of the choices you make.
God doesn't look at you and see a list of bad choices. God looks at you and sees YOU. Just you. The slate is clean.
