Blessings in the Storm

Don't we generally pray for happiness, joy, peace, and protection?  Our hearts want to disconnect from pain and find peace in comfort.  We yearn to live apart from distress.

Have you ever considered that your blessings may come not through the joy and absence of pain, but through the pain?

Laura Story sings a song entitled, "Blessings."  In the song she sings these lyrics,

‘Cause what if your blessings come through raindrops
What if Your healing comes through tears
And what if a thousand sleepless nights
Are what it takes to know You’re near
What if my greatest disappointments
Or the aching of this life
Is the revealing of a greater thirst this world can’t satisfy

And what if trials of this life
The rain, the storms, the hardest nights
Are your mercies in disguise

This song is a powerful reminder that God works all things for good.  He doesn't waste a tear or despairing moment.  He weaves it all together so that we would draw closer to Him.  Only He knows that our deepest hurts can be just the things we need to turn us back to Him.

Wow.  That is incredible, and I needed to hear it.  I pray so often for comfort, for myself and others.  Yet sometimes God doesn't rescue us.  But He always walks alongside us, even if we can't feel him.  I'm going to ponder this song today!
