"the Lord God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being." Genesis 2:7
God created us face to face with him. He breathed His breath into our faces that we would have life. Right from the beginning, we can see how God wants to have a relationship with us. His original design is that we would be in an intimate and honest relationship with him. After all, it's hard to hide from someone if you are face to face with them.
Honest communication flows In a face to face relationship. Throughout Scripture we see God having such emotions as anger, sadness, joy and jealousy. If God has such emotions and we are made in His image, we too were designed to have varying emotions. God works in the perfect balance of these emotions, but we don't always know how. God knew that in order to live in balance with our emotions, we would need to bring them before his feet. God knows that without him, we are tempted to find other ways of handling our emotions.
What happened when Eve stepped out of face to face relationship with God? She trusted her emotions to something that was never intended to satisfy her – food. The first sin occurred and she felt the need to hide.
Without an intimate, honest relationship with God we can become out of balance. We may seek out food as a way to deal with the emotions raging inside of us. God never intended for us to find satisfaction or life from food. God knows the emotions we have because he feels them too. He intentionally designed us to bring those feelings before Him, that he could be our source of life.
This Genesis picture does not portray the creation of man made face to face with food. Food was never intended to have this relationship with us. When we turn to a face to face relationship with food, we are looking in the wrong spot. Food was never able and never will be able to breathe new life into us like the breath of God.
Luke 8:17 says, "For there is nothing hidden that will not be disclosed, and nothing concealed that will not be known or brought out into the open." If you are hiding, know that nothing is hidden from God. He longs for you to come out and embrace the face to face relationship with Him that He intended right from the start. He is big enough.
