Vision For Your Future: Part 2

In our last post, entitled Vision For Your Future, we focused on the Israelites' lack of vision for their future.  They spent 40 years focused on their past and present circumstances as opposed to the future vision of the Promised Land.

Before the Israelites entered the desert, God gave them this promise,  "And I will bring you to the land I swore with uplifted hand to give to Abraham, to Isaac and to Jacob.  I will give it to you as a possession.  I am the Lord."  Exodus 6:8

The promise was clear:  I WILL GIVE YOU THE LAND!

Some of the Israelites entered the Promised Land and some did not.  What happened?  Those that made it into the Promised Land had a vision for their future.  They held onto the promises of God and refused to accept opposition on their mission to get there.

Joshua and Caleb were the only men from their generation to make it into the Promised Land because they held tight to the promises of God.  When they reached the edge of the Promised Land and spied on it they said, "the land we passed through and explored is exceedingly good.  If the Lord is pleased with us, he will lead us into that land, a land flowing with milk and honey, and will give it to us."  Numbers 14:7-8

Joshua and Caleb saw their enemies, but their focus was the promise that God would defeat their enemies.  They were not distracted or pulled away from their mission to reach the Promised Land.  Their vision was on the tip of their mind and nothing could sway them away from it.

The other Israelites held tight to fear of their present circumstances.  When they spied the land they focused on the enemy instead of God's promise, "the people who live there are powerful and the cities are fortified and very large.  We can't attack these people; they are stronger than we are."  Numbers 13:28, 31

The Israelites saw their enemies and focused on them.  Their present circumstances clouded their eyes to see the vision of the Promise Land.  They were pulled from the truth that God would deliver the enemies into their hands.  Because they lost a vision for the Promised Land, they were never allowed to enter it.

God's promise for you is clear:  I WILL GIVE YOU THIS LAND!

God has a Promised Land waiting for you.  There is a place of freedom from food addiction just up ahead.  Will you get there?  Focus your mind on the Promised Land, not the size of your enemy.

A unique way that you can cast a vision for your future is to make an inspiration board.  In the past, I have used magazine clippings, Scripture verses or song lyrics to assemble a board.  Setting words of truth before your eyes is a great way to focus on God's promises for you, as a opposed to the enemy of your present circumstances.
